The British Columbia Girls Choir is thrilled to announce that Cassie Luftspring is our new Artistic Director!
Cassie’s extensive musical education and choral experience make her a natural and ideal successor. As a versatile choral artist, Cassie has made an impact working with several leading organizations across North America, including the Toronto Children’s Chorus, Vancouver Youth Choir, Vancouver Children's Choir, University of Toronto ensembles, and Cantabile Youth Singers of Silicon Valley, among others. As we welcome Cassie into the Artistic Director role, we say a fond farewell to Fiona Blackburn. Spanning 22 years of leadership, Fiona led more than 1000 singers and took the choir on 10 major tours, most recently to Wales in 2018 where she led the choir in its winning performance at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod competition and brought the ‘Children’s Choir of the World’ trophy back to Canada. Throughout Fiona's tenure, BCGC's reputation for musical excellence has flourished; her vision, leadership and commitment to Canadian music and composers has brought the choir to the pinnacle of excellence. We are deeply grateful for all that Fiona has brought to BCGC, and wish her many more years of music making.
Cassie has been BCGC’s Assistant Director for the past two seasons. During that time, our organization has fought and overcome the challenges and limitations of the pandemic, and we are excited to continue along the path of growth, and thrive together as a community under Cassie’s talent and energetic leadership. With the support of the BCGC staff and board of directors, Cassie is delighted to step into the role of Artistic Director this fall.
